#FeatureFriday: Meet Daniele Bezuidenhoudt

Take us through your life experience and how it shaped you to be the woman that you are today?

I was brought up in a home that encouraged us not to take matters as they are and to challenge the norm. My parents did not believe in strict rules that might box in our imagination, but rather to create an environment for us to speak our minds, and solve problems creatively even if it led to making mistakes. This was a very important part of my life experience, because it gave me the courage to take each situation head on. My dad has always been open about business and finances, and took me out of school on numerous occasions to join him for investment conferences. This made learning about finances and investments a normality at a very young age.
What were the highlights and challenges of those years?

The highlights of my life are all the people that shaped me to be who I am today. I have had the privilege to meet and learn from people from all around the work place and from all aspects of life. My challenge has always been to stay focused in a world overflown by noise. It is a challenge to find your purpose and the most effective solutions tailored for you.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career to date?

The most important lesson that I have learned is to take ownership of your life and your career. Do not wait for someone to give you tasks or guidance, but rather put your hand up and go and sit at the table. Speak your mind, the world is waiting for people that have the courage to do something. And do not be afraid of making mistakes.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

I think it is one of the most important aspects of life to keep a work life balance. You have to be just as excited to go to work in the morning as you are to go home at night. The only way in which you can do it is to make both a priority, it is important that you make time for your family and friends even when you’re sometimes exhausted.

What are you hoping to accomplish through the Women & Wealth event?

I hope to inspire my young peers to know that it is never too early to start investing. Technology makes it easy for people with little knowledge to invest and save like a millionaire. I want to encourage them to take ownership of their life and to start living it.
