Data on the top downloaded apps and games from HUAWEI AppGallery in the first quarter of this year reveals some fascinating insights into what Huawei users are looking for to keep themselves informed, entertained, and to add more connectedness and functionality to their lives.
Coming out top on the apps list, is the “SHAREit” app, a file sharing service which boasts the self-proclaimed “fastest cross-platform transfer speed in the world”. From photos, videos, and music, to installed apps and any other file type sharing capabilities, this app also has a media player, which allows users to manage and play their videos and music.
Clearly tired of unwanted calls, the “TrueCaller” app, developed by True Software Scandinavia AB, is the second most downloaded app over the past three months. This service identifies unknown calls and blocks spam calls. It has also added Truecaller Voice, which allows for voice calls over the Truecaller platform using data or WiFi.
Third place on the list goes to the “Booking.com” app, an accommodation booking platform which services over 1.5 million hotels, motels, vacation rentals and other types of accommodation. It promotes travel deals and also includes a map function, which users can utilise to scout the location of their accommodation in relation to other places.
Local entertainment giant DStv’s app, “DStv Now”; which allows users to stream live TV, catch up on their favourite series, movies and sport, or download content to watch offline later; occupies the fourth spot. Rounding out the top five is short-form video giant – “TikTok”.

On the gaming front, the top 20 most popular list is a mix of the various types of games, from action, puzzle and role-playing, to simulation and sports.
Taking top spot is Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), “Lords Mobile”. Assembling an army containing heroes from various backgrounds, including dwarves, mermaids, dark elves, and steampunk robots (just to name a few), players must build their Kingdom while on a quest to unite the Kingdoms.
Racing games occupy the next two spots on the list, as “Nitro Nation Drag & Drift”, and “Asphalt 9: Legends” are in second and third place respectively. The former sees players participate in realistic drag racing with a choice of over 150 cars, while the latter features players racing hypercars with the aim of becoming a Legend of the Track.
Train your brain with the fourth placed game, “Word Search Puzzle”. With eight difficulty levels, players can play with or without a timer, and can compare their scores with their friends and players from around the world.
The larger than life superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) round out the top five, with “WWE Champions 2019”. Battle as, and against, your favourite WWE wrestlers from John Cena, The Undertaker and Ronda Rousey to The Rock, Asuka, and AJ Styles.
