Standard Bank has partnered with 947 and two leading young jazz musicians to create South Africa’s first crowdsourced jazz composition.
Aptly called, #ShareTheJazz, the project celebrates the 20 years of the bank as the main sponsor of Africa’s premium jazz festival, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz as it turns 21. Standard Bank has enlisted award winning pianists, Bokani Dyer and Thandi Ntuli who are respectively Standard Bank Young Artist award recipients for 2011 and 2018.
Dyer and Ntuli are joining forces with Greg and Lucky on 947 to challenge listeners to send 30 seconds long clips of sound ideas for rhythms and melodies that can inspire the creation of a song. This could be anything from drumbeats, lyrics, guitar riffs, or beatboxing. Listeners can WhatsApp their submission to 082 054 0208 from today, 30 August to Wednesday 05 September 2018.
Once received the clips will be assessed by a panel of judges. The person with the most inspiring submission will get a chance to collaborate with Dyer and Ntuli to create a new song, win R5000 prize money from Standard Bank, and a VIP experience at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazzon 27, 28 and 29 September.
The complete song will be released as an EP and made available to download on demand for jazz lovers across the world.
