Put yourself in my shoes: For most children in South Africa and abroad, heading back to school may not be all fun, but the back to school shopping usually is. Back to school time means new school supplies, new uniforms or school clothes and new shoes. Most of us who have children are able to provide them with not just one pair of shoes, but often a few pairs for school, a pair for sports, a pair for church, and a pair just for fun.
All children of school-going age at Thembu primary school are supposed to wear black school shoes as part of their uniform, but many children are unable to do so because they come from households where the cost of a pair of shoes is prohibitive. Although most children in this school show leniency with this requirement, the children still suffer as not wearing school shoes singles them out as being vulnerable and poor, which takes away their dignity and feelings of self-worth.
What can we do: We are asking you to stand in the gap to provide a pair of new or very gently used school shoes for every child from Thembu primary school who will be attending school in 2019. In addition, we hope to bless the children from Thembu primary school with a pair of shoes they can be proud of! On average, a good pair of school shoes cost R150. The cost varies by size, with smaller sizes costing less than larger ones.
This year, we are asking for – 244 pairs of school to provide dignity and show love to the children of Thembu primary school by gifting them with a new or gently used pair of shoes. The drop of zone for shoes is PDL CAR WASH & LOUNGE.
