Newtown Junction Spotlights Young Artists This Youth Month

This youth month Newtown Junction, the Mall known for arts, crafts, and all the fashion celebrated and spotlighted two young creatives and artists from the National School of the Arts who are painting their way through the struggle and are levelling it up through their talent even post-schooling. The talented Blue Benington and Naledi Moleko’s murals have been painted upon the famous photo friendly and Instagram ready Newtown walls by the Piazza court and were revealed on Wednesday the 16th of June 2021.

The two artists selected matriculated from the NSA a few years back and are still following their dreams and sharing their beautiful work. They now have the interesting narrative of a post-school reflection of where their journey in the arts has taken them through this beautiful collaboration and their murals that have been put up, to be seen and shared by all. The reveal of the murals was celebrated through a sip and paint experience where media and influencers were hosted.

See below artwork from each of the artists:

The picture of the face and the arteries is the work of Blue Benington who was Head Boy of the NSA in 2012

Naledi Moleko who matriculated in 2017, created the piece with the African dolls

Newtown Junction also donated R10,000.00 to the National School of Arts as a gesture to show commitment in empowering the youth and supporting the arts. A portion of the money will also be given to the artists Blue and Naledi and the rest will go towards assisting with art equipment for other students.

The artists are incredibly excited about the project and collaboration with Plascon and Newtown Junction Mall and look forward to all the support and love on social media. To find out more about the artists, art pieces, inspiration, journey, and future, be on the lookout for the artist profile videos on @Newtownjunctions Facebook and Instagram pages.
