Mzansi’s Take-out Habits

Stats released by food delivery service app OrderIn have revealed the take-out eating habits of South Africans living in the main metropoles. Joburg and Durban beat Cape Town and Pretoria as the cities that order the most chicken during the working week. While trend-conscious Cape Town chose sushi as its lunchtime delivery of choice, bagging the honour of having more wasabi in their fridge than any other city.

“Our statistics show that Asian, healthy foods and sushi top the food delivery lists across all metropoles, painting a pretty healthy picture for South African cities. Don’t let the healthy workweek fool you, South Africans love their comfort foods over the weekend,” says OrderIn founder and CEO, Dinesh Patel.

Come weekends, pizza tops not only Pretoria’s most ordered lunch (51%) and dinner (48%) lists, but is a firm evening favourite in Joburg (51%) and Cape Town (41%) too. Durban goes against the grain, preferring burgers (35%) over pizza (29%) for dinner.

Launched in 2013, OrderIn has a network of over 1 200 restaurants in all the major metropoles. Offering a cashless payment service and geolocation technology to track and trace your orders online, OrderIn’s app operates on both Android and iOS. With a 32-minute average delivery time you’ll be happy to know that every cent of the R10 standard delivery fee and built in tipping service goes straight to the driver.
