Miss Soweto 2019 took place over the weekend and the glittery crown was taken by Musawenkosi Gumede from Naledi Soweto.
Musawenkosi wore a beautiful night gown while being handed the crown to the delight of many crowds at the Soweto Theatre. Gumede edged out 1st princess Thato Kubheka and 2nd princess Fhulufhelo Bilankulu. Musa succeeds previous winner of the crown Nokukhanya Kunene from Protea Glen.
The prestigious event was hosted by previous Miss Soweto 2016 Nthabiseng Kgasi and Jozi FM drive time Dj Refiloe Motsei. The red carpet interviews were also conducted by Busisiwe Mmotla who won the title in 2017. The whole even was a Miss Soweto family affair as they brought out previous Miss Soweto’s from the year 2008, 2014, 2015 and 2017 to speak about what they are up to.
This years Miss Soweto Judges included the beautiful Rhythm City actress Nolo Phiri, the beautiful Grace Mantjiu who is the beauty editor at Bona Magazine and Zinhle Mthembu. The most touching moment of the evening was when the founder of the pageant came out to talk about why he started the pageant. ” I started this pageant to give an opportunity to aspiring young girls” Said Ubaba Sithole.
In a nutshell, this year’s 40th Miss Soweto was an event to die for. Congratulations to the new Miss Soweto and have an amazing reign.
