Men Care: Introduction to Metro Sexuality |Grooming Pt. 1

Grooming has always been a topic of debate among many people and for some men this is a hard conversation. Many men do not believe in grooming while others do not know about grooming at all. This makes it hard for some men (like me) who are metro sexual to bring up the topic without the question of sexuality coming into discussion. However, today we will talk about hacks and details on grooming.

The dictionary definition of grooming can be explained as “the things that you do to make your appearance clean and neat, for example brushing your hair, or the things that you do to keep an animal’s hair or fur clean and neat”. This has some inkling of truth in it however it excludes bald men or bald people. This is so because grooming is an on-going process that never ends nor does it get old.

There are many types or methods of grooming such as waxing, trimming, shaving, tweezing, sugaring, electrolysis and depilatory. But the most common among these for men is shaving and trimming and for some waxing. Trimming and shaving are closely linked whereas, waxing is the involvement of heated wax to remove hair out of the skin. Grooming can be done to several parts of the body where hair is. However many men concentrate on the visible areas. This is not a good idea as situations may force you to reveal the hairy areas (wink wink).   Grooming trends have evolved during the years and so has hacks and tricks to this effect. Today, men everywhere have embrace body grooming as an essential part of their everyday routines. Once an activity limited to the daily morning shave of the face, grooming is now about the whole body from head to toe. In a recent study it was shown that 20% of men aged 15 to 90 in the United States and 50% of men in Germany of the same age shave, wax sugar or trim hair below the neck. For men between 24 and 34 in the U.S., the number jumps to 30% and in Germany, the number reaches 40% among men between 20 and 34 years of age, with numbers still rising.

In a nutshell, it is no surprise with the numbers mentioned above that many salons now cater to the grooming needs of men and offer services in a masculine environment thus debunking the myth that grooming is just for below visible body parts and just for women. In the following week we will give many men out there knowledge on how to grow good habits when it comes to grooming and how to buy the right products to aid this as well as tips on how to avoid grooming mishaps as well as how to embrace it.
