I was spinning with self-doubt.Lots of thoughts:how ready & receptive were people for an album celebrating and covering traditional folk songs. What would they think of my versions of songs like: Qongqothwane, Qula, Wadidiyela – it took me two months to finally let it go out

The album journey started with my travels.Singing on international stages begged of me to share a bit more of HOME with people. I dug deep into my roots to find that I carried that repertoire with me since childhood and it was rich!!!

I drew inspiration mostly from songs I learnt growing up in the Transkei-Xhosa and Mpondo songs. I also fused that Zulu Mbaqanga funk in Boom Che and in writing Baile in Tswana was inspired by a classic folk song progression in a 6/8 time signature.

…a song I wanted to add a male voice into the conversation and bring balance to the perspective on the album.I explained the meaning of Uphondo Lwam and he ran with his interpretation about the power that is IDENTITY

The lockdown has made me deepen in other skills in my music to enhance my craft.I am revisiting old regrets & also honouring collaboration requests that have been pending.I do miss performing & the travel that comes with it. Sadly, I would have been touring & promoting Folklore

I Did a virtual gig with Puma to share what I have been doing during the lockdown, learning my new loop machine and recreating the Folklore songs. Check it out here https://t.co/sKzwopTld9 And….
