#LAChats With L.A.X On His Latest Album Zaza Vibes

First introduced to the world in November 2020, Zaza Vibes has been one of those albums you just have to put on blast when feel like chilling out to some African vibes. There’s something about the sultry sounds from L.A.X’s lastest album that just makes one get lost in the mood of the music. It’s also a pleasant surprise to see some of our faves Tekno & Mr Eazi on this album – as if this album was not attractive enough.

Born Damilola Afolabi, L.A.X was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He had his secondary school education at Nigerian Turkish International College, Lagos where he formed a music group called Flyboiz, releasing a single titled “Busy Body”. With the view of furthering his education, L.A.X left the group to study in the United Kingdom where he started recording songs and shot a few videos. In 2012, L.A.X released his first major single “Jaye” which featured a vocal appearance from Ice Prince. Upon his return to Nigeria, he met Wizkid through his stylist and went on to sign his first professional recording contract with Starboy Entertainment in 2013. In 2013, L.A.X teamed up with Wizkid to release his first single under the imprint titled “Caro” which gained massive airplay and further ushered him into the Nigerian music industry. “Caro” gained massive airplay and was critically accepted among music critics.*

From massive hits, we got to find out the magic behind Zaza Vibes from L.A.X himself. Here’s more on what he had to say to us:

Using emojis, tell us who you are and briefly let us know why those emojis give a visual explanation to who L.A.X is.

L.A.X: ♥️

To someone who’s being put on your music for the first time, what kind of music would you say you are making?

I want to spread all the love I can on the continent and the world beyond. I believe we overcame a lot of obstacles that have made us stronger united and I just want to remind everyone of the love we can still give one another to make the world a better place.

Zaza Vibes is…

L.A.X: Zaza Vibes is ideally a feeling that I wanted to share with the world the feeling I wanted them to have when listening to my music. Zaza means pure enjoyable energy and loveable charismatic spirit and that describes who I am and what I want people to experience.

You have quite a few features on the album. Who was your most favourite to work with and why?

L.A.X: Tekno because it was an amazing session. We have fun creating the record.

You recently released a video for “Go Low”. Take us through the concept of the video story and who you worked with.

L.A.X: The music video depicted a very edgy fashion side of me and I believe it is always fun to show fans other ways that I can express myself in addition to my music. Creativity prevailed. An amazing video director, Perkils shot it and he did a great job in bringing visuals to my vision.

What can we expect from you anytime soon? Any virtual performances to look forward to, new music videos, collaborations or anything like that?

L.A.X: I will be dropping more music videos soon so my fans are definitely up for a visual feast. The video for Sempe is ready and should be on your music channels soon and there are definitely more collaborations coming up with year from L.A.X.
