Hamleys, the iconic, 259-year-old toy brand has just opened a first of its kind play experience store in Fourways Mall, proving to fans across South Africa that the brand is here to stay. “We are very excited to announce that the Hamleys store in Fourways Mall is officially open to the public. The store boasts a variety of attractions and immersive play areas, including a Hamleys Café,” comments Derek Kohler, Hamleys Interim CEO.
The arrival of the brand in South Africa in 2015 has given consumers a new retail experience where play takes centre stage. Hamleys’ unique approach encourages children (and adults) to engage with the products – giving them a full sensory play experience.
“We are not just a toy store. We have a greater purpose, and the reason for our continued existence is because we sell fun, magic and entertainment, bringing smiles and joy to the faces of children and adults alike,” continues Kohler.
All of the attractions in the store are a first to Hamleys in South Africa. The Hamleys ‘World of Play’ is an in-door, soft play centre for children to play and have fun in a safe and controlled environment while parents enjoy a beverage in the Hamleys Café.
The “Giant Claw” is an adaption of the much smaller arcade claw machine game except, this time around, humans are the ‘claw’.
Customers can also play the remote control (RC), virtual reality (VR) Race Track, take a ride on the Hamleys Express Train or just witness “toys coming to life” in-store through the Hamleys expert demonstrators and characters.
Hamley and Hattie Bear also live in the store, so kids are likely to bump into them for giant bear hugs on any given day! Apart from the entertainment in the store, Hamleys offers a wide range of toys, games, plush toys and gadgets at affordable prices. Hamleys is also excited to be extending its exclusive ranges.
