#FeatureFriday | Meet African Pop Artiste YCEE

YCEE (popularly called Jagaban)is an African pop artiste born and raised in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. He was born on January 29, 1993, and christened Oludemilade Martin Alejo in Festac Town, to a Yoruba Father and an Igbo Mother. He got involved with music at a nearly stage.

Listening to Hip-Hop greats such as Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, greatly influenced the rapper’s writing and drive to become a musician professionally. He got his first major shot in 2012, bagging a record deal with Tinny Entertainment as the first artist to be signed by the label. His first single ‘SmileonMe’ was released later that year and was followed by two more singles–‘PassMe’ and ‘Amen’ in 2013.

All the while, recording and honing his skills as a recording and performing artiste. YCEE returned in 2015 with several monster hits including ‘Condo’ which featured Patoranking, “Jagaban Remix” featuring Olamide and “OmoAlhaji”. The hot trail of chart-topping releases earned him various nominations at the NIgeria Entertainment Awards, including; All Africa Music Awards and the MTV Africa Music Awards.


He picked the “Rookie of the Year” award at the 2015 edition of Headies. He also earned nominations in the ‘best collaboration of the year’ and ‘best music video of the year’ categories at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. 2016 was a great year for the young rapper.

He released a hot Rap record “SuMi” in 2016, produced byhis older brother, Beats By Karma (BBK); performed at the 2016 edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards; teamed up with SouthAfrica’s DJ Maphorisa on the remix of his hit single “OmoAlhaji”.

He embarked on a successful Pan-African media tour across 5 countries in the East, West and South Africa. Later that Year, Tinny Entertainment sealed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment for the release of YCEE’s debut EP titled “TheFirst Wave”. ‘LINKUP’ featuring Reekado Banks was the first offering of the EP and was released in December 2016, the same month, YCEE held his first-ever live concert series tagged “YCEE&CHILL”.

YCEE kicked off 2017 with his first ever UK tour, which included a debut on BBC!Xtraasaco-host on the Destination Africa Show with DJ Edu.

His performance as a co-host on that day earned him an invitation from BBC Radio1 Xtra, this time the host of the Destination Africa show, filling in for DJ Edu; where he premiered his monster hit “JUICE” featuring Maleek Berry.“Juice was later released as the lead single off THE FIRST WAVE EP, which dropped on April 7th 2017.

JUICE has dominated charts all over till now, withover 17 Million YouTube views and earned the most played song on Nigeria Radio for more than 8 weeks.

Earlier in 2018, YCEE started the Year in a very successful way. He had his first ever headlined concert on the12th of January; in London, with top Nigerian Entertainers that performed like Wizkid, Falz, Basketmouth, Eugy, Bella and a host of others. He wrapped up his London concert and dropped a new single, “SayBye Bye” featuring Eugy which was premiered on BBC1Xtra.
