Dope St Jude Hits The Big Time With Apple Music

Dope Saint Jude is an exciting hip-hop artist from the Cape Flats.  She is credited as “transforming South African hip-hop by challenging a genre which was predominantly male and heteronormative”.

Her new single Grrl gets released to a global audience today on Apple Music.   You can listen to the track HERE

Taking her name from the Christian apostle, inspired by rap legend 2Pac, Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison and the US Nothwest’s iconic Riot Grrrl feminist movement, she crafts songs that address complex socio-economic issues with unassuming Cape Town swagger.

In 2016 St Jude collaborated with M.I.A on a H&M fashion campaign.  Since then she has toured and lectured across the globe, was featured in Vogue, i-D, Noisey, Fader, Elle, Marie Clare and Okay Africa and in December she will perform at Afropunk.

Dope St June received a great endorsement by Apple Music and Platoon when they chose her to be part of a Cape Town Creative Lab (CTCL) in June 2018.   The objective of the Lab was to provide unsigned artists form Africa with an opportunity to hone their skills, taking their musical vision to the next level, while giving them access to a global audience and an insight to what the music industry entails.
