DJ LSK was announced the winner of the Budweiser & MixMag DJ competition last Wednesday night as the BUDXLAB series came to a triumphant end at The Venue Thirteen Rooftop Bar, Johannesburg. With a historic place in global clubbing culture, BUDXLAB has taken place in iconic cities around the world, from London to New York, Los Angeles, and Goa. Over the years it has featured electronic sets from industry greats such as Grammy-award-winning DJ Black Coffee, Disclosure, DJ Maphorisa, Carl Cox, and The Martinez Brothers.

This year BUDXLAB returned to South Africa with a curated series of explosive performances by SA’s hottest talent, including Focalistic, Msaki, Sun-EL Musician, Caiiro and many more. The final event was no different with phenomenal sets from headliners Vigro Deep and Mörda along with supporting guests Kammu Dee, Matt Elle, Sino and competition winner, Khotso Calvin Mashinini, a.k.a. DJ LSK.
In a great show of community and engagement, Budweiser and MixMag invited their Twitter audiences to share an Afro-House or Amapiano mix and get as many retweets as possible. With the most retweets, DJ LSK was chosen as the winner and won the chance to perform the opening set of the big BUDXLAB finale. “Having BUDXLAB provide this incredible experience for me, in sharing the stage with some of SA’s best DJs, is the next step in my career. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said DJ LSK.
With this accolade, DJ LSK is well on his way to growing a fan base and cementing his urban relevance, having also played live in the finale of the YFM #InTheRing DJ Knockout and curating daily mixtapes for Ikwekwezi FM.
“Budweiser is the rallying cry for relentless creators, dreamers and go-getters intent on making their mark. BudX has always taken pride in nurturing the talent of tomorrow and we cannot wait to see our DJ competition winner LSK live the ethos of “Greatness is Yours to Take” as he chases his dream,” said Danyal Ismail, Marketing Manager: Budweiser SA.
