Candice Modiselle Hosts Mzansi Magic’s New Show

Actress and presenter Candice Modiselle is the official host of Mzansi Magic’s exciting new fashion design competition show, Ackermans’ Style Squad. The show, which airs Thursdays at 18:30 and repeats Saturdays at 10:30 on DSTV Channel 161, features 10 young budding fashion designers from across South Africa battling it out for the chance of designing their own clothing range for Ackermans.

Sharing her thoughts on the show Candice says, “Shooting Style Squad was truly such a rewarding experience. It’s beautiful to see how fearless young creatives are and further reminds me of how unapologetic I used to be before I let the world’s opinions inform what my art looks and sounds like.”

Each week participants will compete against each other by completing various design-related activities, that will test their creativity and fashion knowledge. The top 2 designers (one boy, one girl) will design their own ranges, under the guidance of leading industry buyers and trends specialists, which will then go to retail at Ackermans stores nationwide later this year.

Apart from the exposure on the Style Squad TV show, all 10 finalists will each receive an R2 500 Ackermans clothing voucher, a Style Squad hamper valued at R1 000 and the title of the Style Squad 2019 finalists.
Additional to their own clothing range, each of the two winners will receive R10 000 cash, R10 000 educational policy, R5 000 for each of their schools and a professional photoshoot in their range.
Marketing Specialist at Ackermans, Tanya Ruiters, says, “We found that most opportunities for young people are academic or sports-related, so it’s great to drive an initiative that speaks to the creatively orientated child.”

Although the show intends to groom these young designers by providing a platform for them to showcase their creativity, Candice says they too have much to offer. “There is so much to learn from each of the 10 budding fashion designers. I truly can’t wait for the world to meet these contestants and grow with them week by week.”

2019 was a bittersweet year for the actress, having landed a role on Mzansi Magic’s Impilo: The Scam, partnered with the Surf Laundry SA Mentorship Program and later announcing the end of a very memorable and impactful chapter in her acting career. After 3 years of being on the show and gracing the screens of millions of viewers every day, the actress announced her exit from SABC 1’s Generations: The Legacy in November. Thanking her followers, supporters and fans of the show for their unwavering support throughout her journey as Lerato, the actress promised to leave no stone unturned in her creative journey.

Doing just that, 2020 promises to be an exciting year for Candice, with Style Squad being just one of many projects the young creative will be embarking on this year.
Remaining tight-lipped about her upcoming plans, fans can look forward to seeing Candice back on screens, sooner rather than later, on a role that promises to be her biggest one yet as it will bring international exposure.
Catch Candice on Ackermans Style Squad every Thursday at 18:30 on Mzansi Magic, channel 161. The show repeats Saturdays at 10:30 on Mzansi Magic and re-runs from 22 January on Mzansi Wethu, channel 163, Wednesdays at 17:00, repeats Saturdays at 15:00.
