New York Soul Act Tortured Soul Live At The Lyric | 15 December 2017

Whilst Kaya FM & Bassline Live have been striving to bring the best in African acts to the ‘Live at the Lyric’ series over the past year, we are proud to announce a slightly different twist to the end of 2017, in the form of international house and soul sensation Tortured Soul.

100% live modern, deep, soulful house music that prides itself on being freed from the dj booth, Tortured Soul is one of the worlds most groove-centred acts.  With a sound reminiscent of neo-soul groups like Jamiroquai or Brand New Heavies, it is also deeply saturated in the contemporary freshness of house purveyors like Joe Negro, Kenny Dope, Soul Clap and Disclosure.

Loved and revered by South African audiences through word-of-mouth and strong radio play, this is one show that Afropolitans will not want to miss.

Led by frontman John-Christian Urich, Tortured Soul was quickly picked up by New York-based deep house label Central Park Recordings and the group was officially launched to the world.  Since then it has become a staple amongst DJ’s across the globe and received major airplay, including a number 1 on Kaya FM.

‘Introducing Tortured Soul’, the debut album, was dubbed by legendary tastemaker Gilles Petersen as “the future of house music”.  The follow-up album, 2009’s ‘Did You Miss Me’, released on the band’s own label, TSTC Records, ushered in a new wave of critical acclaim from music publications like Blues and Soul, SoulBounce, and SoulTracks who described the album as “one immaculate danceable tune after another.”

With a new album, ‘Hot For Your Love Tonight’, burning up dance floors with songs like the heartfelt ‘I’ll Be There For You’ and the Deep House-flavoured ‘Don’t Lead Me On’, Tortured Soul shows no signs of stopping. The future of House Music is now.

Once again, stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing, new affiliates to the Kaya Fm & Bassline Live series, will be on board, standing behind the rich arts an culture scene in SA through music.
The band will be performing for one night only at the Lyric on the 15th December and tickets are on sale at Computicket now for between R200 to R685.  Book now for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
